Description
Cocos nucifera
A single gray trunked palm with a ring patterncreated by old leaves. This palm usually has a slightly curved trunk with a swollen base. The leaves ar efeather-like and can grow up to 18′ long and about 5′ wide. Produces yellow flower pods about 2-3′ long, then fruit once the tree is 6-10 years old. Coconuts are produced in the spring and grow around 15-12″ in diameter. Likes tropical-subtropical sandy shorelines, can withstand salt marshy water and soil. Can also be grown inland in well drained areas and lots of rainfall.
