Description
Ulmus alata
An open-top rounded canopy with a straight trunk. The canopy appears slightly droopy and the leaves have winged edges and can be shaped rounded, pyramid, or vase. Medium growth rate with high adaptability to its environment. Early pruning is recommended to alleviate duplicate trunk growth. A special characteristic of this tree is the corky projections, or wings that grow from the branches. Leaves are 2-4” double-serrated, oval shaped, and green throughout most of the year, changing to yellow in the Fall. Producing a dry hard brown oval shaped fruit about 1/2” that does not attracted wildlife.
